S.P.I.N. (Special People in Need) was formed in June 1998 by a group of committed people (some were parents of handicapped children) who felt that local facilities for people with Special Needs were limited. They have embarked upon a number of projects to enhance the quality of life amongst handicapped people in Tamworth by providing opportunities for integration into the Community, for example, by holidays, outings, social gatherings and also offering support for the families of those people with special needs.

The work of S.P.l.N. has highlighted the worry of many parents with handicapped young people as to what will happen when they are no longer there to care for them. The worries of these parents has led to the establishment of THADDEUS TRUST which is a S.P.l.N. supported housing project.
